Audition prelims are held on January 30th at Wakefield High School.

Rules and Regulations

Eligibility: You must be a full time student in the North Carolina public, private or home School System.  All students must be registered by a parent or legal guardian.  All entry forms must be postmarked or received no later than midnight January 19, 2018.  Preliminary participation is LIMITED to the first 20 registrations per category and determined by earliest postmark.  First place winners from previous seasons are not eligible unless they enter in a new category.  New songs/tracks are required for each round.

Material:  For preliminaries, prepare a song of your choice to sing by memory a cappella (without music).  Songs must come from one of the following categories:  Pop, Broadway, Country/Western, Classical, or Novelty.  A Preliminary Audition should last no more than 60 seconds.  **Lyrics must be appropriate for ALL audiences.  Failure to do so will result in disqualification at the discretion of the judges/sponsor.

NEW Judging Criteria:  Judging criteria includes Vocal Ability, Stage Presence,  Appropriateness of Music, Appearance and Entertainment Value.   The decision of the judges is FINAL.

Location~Date~Time: Wakefield HS Auditorium on January 30, 2018 from 2:45pm-6:00pm.

The Process: There are a minimum of two (2) unaffiliated judges who will decide on preliminaries and semi-finals.  In each “GOT IT” category (Elementary School, Middle School and High School), there are six (6) semi-finalists chosen.  There is a semi-finals round of competition with judges commentary in front of a live audience on Friday, February 9, 2018.  Songs for this round must be new and require background tracks ONLY .  A link will be sent to singers to UPLOAD music files.  Files for semifinals must be received no later than February 7, 2018.  (no a Capella singing allowed per the rules and regulations – please see Mr. Orsett if you need assistance with your music immediately following the semi-finals announcement) From that competition, in each “GOT IT” category three (3) Finalists are chosen by the judges.  You’ve GOT IT FINALS are Friday, February 23, 2018.  During this evening show, audience members will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite performers.  Songs for this round must be new and require background tracks ONLY .  A link will be sent to singers to UPLOAD music files.  Files for finals must be received no later than February 21, 2018. (no a Capella singing allowed per the rules and regulations)

General Conditions:  By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these rules and the decisions of the producers, the voting audience, and the panel of judges, which shall be final and binding.  We reserve the right to use the auditioning process for publicity and other purposes, and to use the name and likeness of those who audition and who arrive to audition, including friends, family, or any other individual accompanying the participant, as part of that publicity and for other purposes, without compensation, unless prohibited by law.  All federal, state and local laws apply.  Dates are subject to change.  Wake County Public Schools, Wakefield Theatre and Wakefield High School are not responsible for and shall not be liable for : (I) any failure of transportation, bad directions, or inability for any reason to appear at an audition site or audition  or appear before the judging panels; (II) any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by participating in the auditioning process or being selected to or disqualified from continuing in the audition process and/or the show; or (III) any printing, typographical or technological errors in any materials associated with the auditioning process.
